Commencement 2012 demonstrated that Laurel University, by the grace of God, enjoys Kingdom impact: 156 total graduates!
Seven graduates came from our first class in the Master of Business Administration totally-online degree program. Others received their bachelor degrees in Bible, Theology and Christian School Education. Many of these students already serve in their communities and churches.
In addition to the High Point, NC graduation, Laurel U enjoyed three other commencement ceremonies as well, in addition to the High Point, NC graduation: Bogotá, Colombia; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and Fermathe, Haiti.
Knowing that pouring rain on a tin roof would drown out the graduation ceremony for themselves and their families, Haitian students prayed. The rain stopped just before students marched out dressed in regalia donated by Jostens. It only started again after the reception – praise God! A national Christian radio station broadcasted the entire ceremony as 48 students graduated with a Masters of Education degree.
Each Haitian M.Ed. graduate in the program trains on average 100 teachers!
In a country where only 15% primary school teachers have basic teacher qualifications, and most have no teacher training at all, this means that Laurel U graduates truly are making a difference. Graduates shared their joy in receiving education from a Christian perspective so they can train others to teach better and impact their entire country.
Laurel U desires to help students learn and grow, so they can impact their world for God, wherever they serve.
